সাহিত্য-সংস্কৃতি অনুষ্ঠানটির সূচনা করেন কলকাতা দূরদর্শন এর সূচনা লগ্ন থেকে। সাহিত্যের নানা দিক চিত্রকলা ভাস্কর্য ছাড়াও জীবন ভাবনার ও সমাজ সংস্কৃতির নানা প্রসঙ্গ নিয়ে এই অনুষ্ঠান তিনি বহু বছর ধরে প্রযোজনা করেছেন। খুবই সম্মানের ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অনুষ্ঠান হয়ে উঠেছিল এটি। নিয়মিত সংযোজনা করতেন সুনীল গঙ্গোপাধ্যায়, পবিত্র সরকার, স্বপন মজুমদার, লেখক শংকর, শ্যামল গঙ্গোপাধ্যায় প্রমূখ।
শান্তিনিকেতনে দূরদর্শন স্টুডিও নির্মাণ করে সেখানথেকে নানা অনুষ্ঠান রেকর্ড করে আনার দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। তারপর তার উপর দায়িত্ব পড়ে স্থায়ী দূরদর্শন কেন্দ্র গড়ে তোলার। তিনি প্রথম ডিরেক্টর হিসেবে শান্তিনিকেতন দূরদর্শন নিপুণভাবে পরিচালনা করেন।
‘দর্শকের দরবারে’ ‘নববর্ষের বৈঠক’ : কলকাতা দূরদর্শনের অন্যতম দুটি অনুষ্ঠান ছিলো ‘দর্শকের দরবারে’ এবং ‘নববর্ষের বৈঠক’। প্রথম দিন থেকে টানা দশ বছর তিনি ‘দর্শকের দরবারে’ অনুষ্ঠানটি একাই লাইভ পরিবেশন করতেন এবং এটি সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় অনুষ্ঠানে পরিণত হয়। আশির দশকের মাঝামাঝি তিনি বিবিসি লন্ডনে প্রযোজকের চাকরিতে চলে যান। পাঁচ বছর পর ফিরে এসে আবার বহুবছর ‘দর্শকের দরবারে’ অনুষ্ঠানটি করেন। তখন তার সঙ্গে একজন ঘোষিকা থাকতেন। নববর্ষের বৈঠক কখনো করেন রেলগাড়িতে কখনো গঙ্গায় নৌকা ভাসিয়ে কখনো পাতাল রেলে তিনি করেন অনুষ্ঠানটি প্রবাদে পরিনত হয়।
